Karate, for the
second half of life

Karate Gold is classical Japanese Karate with the contact taken out — built for adults 50 and over. It's the real art: precise kihon, classical kata and the principles behind them, taught in detail and entirely non-contact.

There's no sparring, no getting knocked about and no pressure. You train at your own pace, alongside people in the same season of life, in the same authentic dojo as our other programs — just pitched for where you are now.

For many it becomes the best part of the week: real skill to work on, a calm and focused hour, and a genuine community.

円熟 · en · juku — a real Japanese word for the mellow mastery that ripens with age and long practice. Later life as a prime, not a decline. That’s the idea behind Karate Gold.

“
I turned 50 last year and made the decision to start some martial arts training for fitness and discipline. I also wanted something genuine, authentic and professional. My friend and I discovered Karate Academy of Power and could not be any happier.

Why Karate Gold · なぜ

Technique, body,
mind and the Way

Four things Karate Gold gives you — the whole point of training Karate the classical way, later in life.

技

Classical technique

Precise kihon and classical kata — the technical heart of Shito-ryu, taught in detail. Real depth, entirely non-contact.

体

Move well

Balance, mobility, posture and lasting strength. Gentle on the joints, never on the standards — moving well for decades.

心

A quiet mind

Breath, focus and presence. The moving meditation of kata sharpens the mind and settles it — mindfulness at the heart of budō.

道

Community & the Way

A genuine dojo community, not a gym. Shared purpose and good company — for many, the best part of the week.

Born in Okinawa · 沖縄

Karate for life —
the Okinawan way

Karate was born on the island of Okinawa — and our own Shito-ryu traces directly back there, through Kenwa Mabuni and Anko Itosu to the old masters of Shuri. It's worth knowing how the Okinawans have always practised: for life.

In old Okinawa, Karate wasn't sport and it wasn't sparring — that came much later. The art was built on kihon and kata, refined slowly over years. A non-contact, kata-centred practice like Karate Gold isn't a watered-down Karate — it's remarkably close to how the art was first trained at its source.

Okinawa is also one of the most studied places on earth for long, healthy lives — often called the original "Blue Zone." Its elders are known for two things in particular: 生き甲斐 ikigai, a reason to get up in the morning, and 模合 moai, a circle of friends who move through life together. Purpose and community — exactly what a good dojo gives you. There isn't really an Okinawan word for "retirement": you keep moving, keep learning, keep showing up. That's Karate Gold.

生き甲斐

Ikigai · purpose

A reason to get up in the morning. Training gives the week rhythm and a goal — belt by belt, kata by kata.

模合

Moai · a circle for life

The dojo becomes your people — familiar faces, shared purpose and genuine friendship that lasts.

型

Kata · the original method

Slow, precise, non-contact — the way Karate was refined on Okinawa, long before sparring existed.

Yes. Karate Gold is built on kihon (fundamentals) and kata — precise, classical technique with no sparring and no contact. It's remarkably close to how Karate was first trained on Okinawa, and it's gentle on the joints without ever lowering the standard.
